Eating & Shopping in Bangkok!

9/17/2016 12:56:00 AM

Bangkok is my favorite city to visit for many reasons.  If you like to eat and shop like me, this is the city for you!  I usually stay for 5 days to a week because this city has so much to offer!

Few tips:
  1. Always book your hotel closer to the BTS Sky Train or MRT (Bangkok Metro).  They're inexpensive, reliable and pretty much takes you to most of the attractions and major shopping areas. Personally, I will avoid taxi and Tuk Tuk especially during the rush hours.
  2. Dress casual with comfortable shoe because you will walk a lot!
  3. Bring extra empty suitcases with you because you will definitely need it if you like to shop!
Siam Paragon (Nearest BTS: Siam)

This mall is always crowded because of its strategic locations and next to few popular malls like Siam Center, Siam Square and MBK.  This is my favorite mall because it is really nice!  Take your time to explore the entire mall and you will know what I mean :)  Besides the typical food court, there are many good restaurants inside this mall.  The "Gourmet Market" supermarket and the nearby food hall are pretty awesome!  While you're at the Siam Paragon, walk over to the nearby mall, Siam Center, this mall has many special designer boutiques, theme restaurants and Food Republic Food Court on the top floor.  Much nicer than the FR in Pavilion, KL :)
This is the main reason why I like the supermarket in Siam Paragon so much!
Yummy pork stick for 15 baht each, how many you want?
I love the free food samples in Gourmet Market :)

EMQuartier (Nearest BTS: Phrom Phong)

This is a latest MUST VISIT place in Bangkok!  I don't think I can explain it better than the links below.

I'm ready!
There are many nice restaurants above the Water Garden.  You must check it out!
Mango Sticky Rice everyday!
Nice Sunday market at EMQuartier!
One of the finest cafe in Bangkok!

*Note, if you are a cheese tart lover, make sure you stop by BAKE in the food hall close to the Gourmet Market supermarket.  Short or no queue at all!  :)

The best is to eat it fresh!  80 baht each and have discount if you buy six :)
Central Embassy Shoppinbg Mall (Nearest BTS: Ploenchit )

This photo was taken from our hotel balcony.  Just a stone throw away from one of the greatest architecture building in Bangkok!

The interior of this shopping mall was equally stunning!  Filled with top designer boutiques and restaurants.  However, I highly recommended you try out the Eathai food court at the ground floor! Super nice food court!  The food court was in the mist of upgrade renovation during my last visit on June 2016.  I think it should be completed by now.

Chatuchak Weekend Market or JJ Market (Nearest BTS: Mo Chit )
Who doesn't like the coconut ice cream in Chatuchak Market?

If this is your 1st visit to Bangkok, make sure you include this in your itinerary.  Chatuchak Market opens only on Saturday and Sunday, so it is a good idea to plan your vacation to include weekend in Bangkok.  It opens from 6AM to 7PM and you probably want to go there in the morning hours before the weather gets hot in the afternoon.  But you would probably spend a good portion of your day there eating, shopping and foot massaging :)  If you see anything that you like, just buy it on the spot because chances are you would not be able to locate the same store again easily.

I always take an empty mid-size suitcase with me when I visit Chatuchak Market because I knew that I will definitely buy a lot of stuffs and I don't want to carry those individual bags all day long :) Believe me, you will not be the only person doing this.

Chatuchak Market offers great selection of local food and make sure you try it!
For 50 baht, you can taste this super nice Thai iced coffee!

This 50 baht Wonton Noodle is so much better than those over rated "famous" Wonton Noodle restaurants in downtown Bangkok!   So yummy!

Check out the following link for more information and how to get there by BTS and MRT.

Union Mall (Nearest MRT: Phahon Yothin )

If you want to look for real bargains and selections, this is the right place!  It is just one stop away from the Chatuchak Market MRT station.  You will not find a lot of tourist like the Platinum Fashion Mall because this is where the locals shop.

Platinum Fashion Mall (Nearest BTS: Chid Lom )

Platinum Mall is probably the best place for bargain clothing and accessories in the downtown area.  It is about 10 minutes walk from Chid Lom BTS via Central World Mall.  You can easily spend the entire day here and the food court on 6th floor is pretty good.

Best Inexpensive Thai Restaurant - INTER Restaurant @ Siam Square Soi 9 (Nearest BTS: Siam)

There are many good Thai restaurants in Bangkok but this is the one I highly recommended!

Best Desserts Restaurant - After You Dessert Cafe @ Siam Square (Nearest BTS: Siam)

If you like dessert, this is a MUST TRY place!  It is located directly across the street from INTER Restaurant.  It is also opposite the Hello Kitty Cafe @ Siam Square.

After You Dessert Cafe has many branches in Bangkok including one small outlet inside Siam Paragon (not recommended because always has long queue).

Make sure you try their signature Shibuya Toast and Mango Sticky Rice!  Heaven!

Best Mango Sticky Rice - Maewaree @ Tonglor (Nearest BTS: Tonglor)

There are many decent mango sticky rice in Bangkok.  However, Maewaree is my absolute favorite! The video below shows you how to get there from Tonglor BTS.  Must try!

Yunomori Onsen & Spa Bangkok (Nearest BTS: Phrom Phong)

If you have few hours to spare, you should consider this Japanese onsen and spa!  Try to go there on weekdays morning and they may have good discounts for you!  Call them to find out the package details and make reservation before you go.  This place provides excellent services in a relaxing environment. Highly recommended!

The best way to get there is to take BTS to Phrom Phong Station and take the The Emporium exit (opposite EMQuartier) and take a taxi near the BTS station.  Ask your hotel concierge to write down the name and address in Thai because the taxi driver may not understand English.

While there are so many delicious food in Bangkok, you may run into overrated places (by some of the bloggers) as well!  Below are two of the places that you should avoid!...unless you want to try :)

SabX2 Wonton Noodle (Across Platinum Fashion Mall)

Kaiton Kao Mun Kai (Pink Shirt) Chicken Rice (on the corner of Petchburi Soi 30, Petchburi Road - close to Platinum Fashion Mall)

You can give it a try if you want and they are not expensive but you will be disappointed if you compare it to Malaysia and Singapore chicken rice :)

I have a lot more places to recommend and photos to share but the above should keep you guys busy for few days in Bangkok :)

Enjoy your trip to Bangkok!
